Heat of hydration, bleeding, viscosity, setting of Ca(OH)2-GGBS and MgO-GGBS grouts

Hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2)- and reactive magnesia (MgO)-activated ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) have shown advantages in geotechnical applications compared with Portland cement (PC). To apply these two novel binders slurry form to field applications, the properties of their grouts need be investigated, which is objective this study. The heat hydration, bleeding, viscosity, setting behavior Ca(OH)2-GGBS MgO-GGBS were investigated PC pure GGBS All indicated a decrease bleeding time, but an increase viscosity decreasing water/cementitious material (W/C) ratio. Compared grout, grout same W/C ratio demonstrated higher lower rate viscosity. Bleeding time decreased peak increased activator (Ca(OH)2 or MgO)/GGBS within GGBS-based grouts. was than that Ca(OH)2 indicating effective on activating hydration GGBS. significantly MgO limited after 8 h. times those grouts, primarily attributed MgO.
